svelte new zotero kicks rumply old RefMan's butt
Information Science | Knowledge Management | Human Computer Interaction | Bibliography | Browser integration | Data Scraping | Indispensable Tools | MetadataWow.
I just remembered I have Zotero installed.
I had deactivated it because it was interfering with my RIS harvesting into Reference Manager 11 (RefMan).
I would love to compare the efficacy of retrofitting crappy Google Scholar RIS using cut-and-paste methodology from more fully indexed sources; vs. ignoring the RIS import altogether and getting Zotero to scrape it all for you.
I cant do that if Zotero gobbles up all my RIS files...So i figgured out how to make Zotero leave them alone.
Did a test scrape of the ACM Portal (The ACM Digital Library) DOI page for the iVIBRATE paper, and it looks pretty good. Didn't gobble up the ISSN; and took the Journal Abbrev as the Publication's full name...but it downloads the PDF for you; and takes a snapshot of the page; just in case you need it when you're offline, or if the source site goes offline...
It also lets you take notes and Tag your articles.
At first glance; it looks like it ignored the INDEX TERMS Primary (& Secondary) Classification on the webpage; instead pulling key terms from the title.
ON CLOSER INSPECTION, it does ignore the index terms, but pulled the Tags from a Keywords: section at the VERY BOTTOM of the webpage. Very cool.
