15 hard-to-clean spots on any hard drive...

| | | | | | | |

So here is my list of cobwebby digital corners that, despite my 'best' efforts, nearly always seem to be in a deep state of disarray. They seem to remain on the back burner, in the back of my mind as something I know I should tidy up some day, but that day never seems to come.
The list started out as my top 9 disaster zones, but as is so often the case, upon painful reflection, this list grew larger. And, in fact, grew into a series of defined projects that intersect along some important organizational lines.
So without further ado, here is my list of top 15 hard-to-clean spots on any hard drive:

  1. My email inbox.
  2. My Bookmarks.
  3. My Downloads folder.
  4. My Applications folder.
  5. My Desktop folder.
  6. My Documents folder.
  7. My Databases folder.
  8. My Work folder.
  9. My Papers.app collection of articles etc. Totally needs syncing with my hand-managed collection in my eArticles folders...
  10. My RefMan and Sente databases of reference/citation metadata. Totally out of sync with what is on my hard drive today.
  11. My DevonThink databases (the ones that have copied all the articles into the DevonThink database folder. Totally need trimming. In some cases, i have these articles in 3 or 4 places in my system. Totally unnecessary.
  12. My finaces. Gawd. Hate this stuff. It never ends! This includes bank statements, credit cards, cash receipts, & expenses for taxes. And the taxes returns too. What a headache.
  13. My MP3 collection & its metadata.
  14. My AVI & MP4 collections & their metadata.
  15. My eBook collection & its metadata.
